  6. The Final Chapter – A Film by Paul Bates

Friday night marked the end of a very long chapter for Essex Rollerblading with the hosted premier of Paul Bates latest production. A video that’s filming has spanned close to 3 years and documented the bonds and adventures of a close knit group of friends. It was a joy to finally see the book closed on this project having seen all of the guys work hard to complete their sections over the last few months, persevering through standard UK weather and a plethora of injuries.

The Premier was held at Southend College in what is known as ‘the pod’… a bright red bulbous womb containing a very well equipped auditorium. It was a fitting birth for this Southend conceived chronicle. A strong turnout of rollerbladers attending from near and far including many faces who have not donned rollerblades in many years. It was great to see so many faces old and new come together.

Following the Premier the celebrations moved over to the Pink Toothbrush to drink the night away… a venue quite raw in its own quality… the kind of venue if you stood still for too long you would end up chemically bonded to the carpet. However it is always great to see a place taken over by an eclectic mix of personalities brought together by the shared love of rollerblading. The night was danced away in a haze of whiskey surrounded by every screen in the venue playing the final chapter on repeat. A fitting send-off…

So like many recent online rollerblade releases lately ‘The Final Chapter’ suffered from a case digital gremlins however here we go…

A few words from Paul… “Just a huge thank you to everyone for coming to the premiere and to all the guys who skated in the film, It’s a wonderful thing having such an incredible group of friends and such a great local skate scene”

So without further ado… Featuring Profiles from… Joey Yeomans, Adam Galwas, Sam Cooper and Seamus Rafferty… also featuring Paul Bates, Richard ‘Reg’ Pickering, Zak Buys, James Pearce, Louis Packam, Jack Caryl, James Little and Daniel Ives.

  7. “The Final Chapter” - A Rollerblade film by Paul Bates

It has been a fair few years since the mysteriously reclusive Paul Bates has released a Rollerblade edit… but fear not, he has been a very busy guy.

The premiere for The Final Chapter will be on Friday January 31st, 6pm-7pm at Southend East Essex College, SS1 1ND. The college is located directly next to Southend Central train station.

Where: Southend East Essex College, Southend-on-sea, SS1 1ND

We then move on from 9pm to The Pink Toothbrush Nightclub in Rayleigh high-street for the after party, where they will be playing The Final Chapter on repeat on the screens in their nightclub whilst spinning Indie and Rock Anthems until 3am.

     See you all there!”

  8. Oli and Kola hard at work on the Kingdomination tour somewhere in Liverpool - 2007

  9. JLee dropped a banger last week featuring pretty much the entire London crew. All in memory of the man, Brandon Negrete

  10. Haffey touched down in the capital earlier this week to promote the Nitro Circus event going down later in November. Kola caught up with the man at Bay66 to find out what he’s been up to lately.

How long have you been doing the Nitro Tour?
I have been with the Nitro Live tour since it started back in 2010 with the first Australia capital city tour.

What is the best part about touring with Nitro Circus?
I know it sounds cliche but there are kind of too many good things to pick just one. I get to ride a ramp I have more fun skating than anything else at the moment while I am traveling the world with an awesome group of people who happen to be the best at what they do and we get to have all sorts of crazy experiences on off days that you can’t really get anywhere else!

Favourite trick you have learnt since riding the mega ramps?
I just recently learned misty 7’s on it and its such a sick floaty smooth rotation. Definitely one of the best feeling moves on such a big gap!

Any new tricks planned for the new tours?
Yea I have a few new ones. I have the previously mentioned misty 7, a couple new double flip variations, along with a couple new contraptions on the entertainment side of things! Definitely looking forward to bringing all the new stuff out to the UK!

Is there anywhere in particular you like touring to? Has their been a favourite tour stop since starting Nitro?
Everywhere we have gone has been pretty epic but I would have to say Australia is my favorite place to tour. We haven’t been there just yet but I am also really looking forward to touring the US for the first time early next year!

Do you get to skate much street?
If I’m being honest I don’t get to much at all. The tour schedule lately has been so hectic it hasn’t left much time for it and even when it does I have to be super careful because I need to make sure I stay healthy to be able to do my job on tour.

When was the last time you filmed a non Nitro clip?
I think the last legitimate one I filmed was the 360 disaster soul I had in the friends part of V. Can’t even really remember when that was to be honest haha. June or July this past summer. Definitely been a little while. Well actually now that I think about it that was the last street clip I filmed but I also just finished filming a non nitro but also non street project that will be out next year at some point!
